David Hallyday was ostensibly foreordained for a vocation in music; his parents were French rock candy legend Johnny Hallyday and pop chanteuse Sylvie Vartan, France's "it" couple during the swing '60s. Hallyday was born David Smet (his father's veridical name) on August 14, 1966, in Boulogne-Billancourt. From the years of four, he split his time 'tween France and the United States, growth up bilingualist and finally enrolling in schooling in California. As a teenager, he played in an amateur john Rock & roll band, and in 1979 played drums behindhand his founder for the first time in public. His stepfather, Tony Scotti, owned the Scotti Bros. label, and Hallyday went to work for him after finishing schooling. He too splattered in acting, and won the lead function in the music-themed comedy He's My Girl in 1987, which allowed him the prospect to disk some of his original material. His kickoff album, the English-language True Cool, was released in 1988 and sold closely a million copies worldwide. The reexamination, Stone 'n' Heart, appeared in 1990 and gave him his only American graph single, "Ooh La La."Still singing in English, Hallyday had even to do a dent in the French mart. He issued his kickoff French-language individual, "Heros," in 1993, just then returned to English for his future album, a 1994 collaboration with the backing grouping Blind Fish called Pain and Pride. Another financial support band, Novocaine, was assembled for a 1997 album of the same make, which was issued only in the United States to highly softened response. In 1999, Hallyday collaborated with his father on the album Panax quinquefolius Pour Sang, writing all the music on the phonograph recording. That same year, Hallyday in conclusion released his low all-French album, Un Paradis/Un Enfer, and had his kickoff major success in France. Hits like "Stream Toi" and "Tu Ne M'as Pas Laisse le Temps" boosted the album's gross sales, and he was showered with medicine awards come year's end. He took a detour into automobile racing and won the GT championship in 2001. In the summer of 2002, he returned to medicine with the release of his minute all-French album, Révélation.

Wonder Woman actress finds body on river in D.C.

WASHINGTON —

The actress who played Wonder Woman on TV in the 1970s says she didn't do anything extraordinary when she discovered a body this week on the Potomac River in Washington.

Lynda Carter tells The Washington Post she was alone in a boat when she saw the body Wednesday. She says she didn't have a cell phone with her, so she yelled to some fishermen and asked them to call police. Carter waited until rescuers arrived and directed them to the body.

District of Columbia police say the body of 47-year-old Helen Johnstone of Washington was found floating on the river Wednesday. The medical examiner's office has not declared an official cause of death.

Carter says she "did what anybody would have done."

While one notorious cabaret testify eclipses their late achievements, the hard rock/heavy metal circle Great White would practically rather you remember their Grammy nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance, the over half a dozen one thousand thousand records they sold, and their dual pt album ...Twice Shy.

Formed in the other '80s by vocalizer Jack Russell and guitar player Mark Kendall, Great White were regulars of the L.A. club fit, playing their Led Zeppelin- and AC/DC-influenced metal to a cursorily ontogeny fan pedestal. Local wireless play and more gigging helped sell 20,000 copies of their independent releases, the Out of the Night EP and the uncut Stroke in the Dark, both released in 1983.

The EMI label took notice, signed the stripe, and released its self-titled, major-label debut a twelvemonth later. Stab in the Dark would be reissued by the label in 1987, the like year as the new album Once Bitten... appeared with the gain exclusive "Rock Me." The album went atomic number 78, merely 1989's ...Twice Shy took things even further thanks in no small section to the massive winner of the single "Once Bitten Twice Shy," a cover of a Mott the Hoople song written by Mott member Ian Hunter.

Retentive tours with Ratt and a co-headlined tour with Tesla unbroken the ring extinct of the studio until 1991 when the polished Hooked appeared with deuce unlike album covers, one a provocative side shot of a mermaid suspension off an lynchpin in midair and one less shameful with the mermaid still submerged. Aquiline went gold piece their 1992 follow-up, Psychotic City, sold less, leading to EMI saying good day to the stria with the 1993 digest The Best of Great White.

Sail Away from 1994 establish the ring on Zoo, while 1996's Let It Rock was released by Imago. A springy set of cover tunes featuring the put to work of their favourite band appeared as Great Zeppelin: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin, released by Cleopatra in 1999. That like year, Can't Get There from Here on the Portrait label gave fans their number one taste of Russell's new writing partnership with longtime friend and quondam Night Ranger member Jack Blades. Another set of covers formed the 2002 Cleopatra album Regain, just this time the choices were surprising, with the Cult's "Love Removal Machine" and X's "Burning House of Love" acquiring the Great White treatment.

Forgotten by the mainstream, they were brought stake into the calcium light when pyrotechnics used by the band sparked a fire in a Rhode Island nightspot on February 20, 2003, killing C citizenry, including the band's guitar player, Ty Longley. The 2004 reprint of Regain drew some media attention, since the Horizon label had granted it a new and now pathological form of address, Combustion House of Love. Trials concerning the fire continued on into 2006 as questions concerning world Health Organization authorised the pyrotechny were organism investigated. The band spent the lie of the year touring and performing some benefit concerts for victims of the fire. In early 2007 they began celebrating their 25th anniversary with some West Coast shows that were trussed to the release of VH1 Classic Presents: Metal Mania - Stripped, Vol. 3 and in the summer they released a young studio record album, Back to the Rhythm.
